The Chamberlain Family Link

William Chamberlain estimated year of birth is 1827. I have come across a William Chamberlain who was baptized on 17^th March 1827 in Barwell, Leicestershire, Parents are down as Thomas and Jane. In the same year a Thomas Chamberlain married a Jane Cross in Barwell on the 25^th February.

In the 1841 Census William Chamberlain (14) is lodging with the Croft family in Aston Flamville, Leicestershire. 

In 1850 William Chamberlain marries Elizabeth Needham in Wolvey on the 17^th October.
Father name is down as Thomas Chamberlain

Elizabeth estimated year of birth is 1831. I have come across an Elizabeth Needham who was baptized on 26^h August 1831 in Barwell, Leicestershire, Parents are down as Joseph and Maria.

Joseph Needham married Maria Botterill on 27^th July 1830 in Barwell, Leicestershire.

In the 1851 Census William Chamberlain (26) and Elizabeth (19) are living in Wolvey, Leicestershire. William's occupation is down as Agriculture Labourer.
William is down as being born in Copston, Warwickshire, while Elizabeth is down as being born in Barwell, Leicestershire.

In the 1871 Census William Chamberlain (44) and Elizabeth (40) are living on Cloudsley Road, Wolvey, Leicestershire.
They have six children living with them, George (11), Emma (9), Ellen (6), Thomas (3), Sarah (3) and Elizabeth (0).
All the family are down as being born in Warwickshire, except Elizabeth who is down as being born in Leicestershire.

In the 1881 Census William (54) and Elizabeth (49) are still living at Cloudsley Road, Wolvey, Leicestershire.
They have three children living with them, Sarah (12), Elizabeth (10) and Joseph (6).
William’s occupation is Agriculture Labourer and Elizabeth is Seamstress.
William is down as being born in Copston, Warwickshire, Elizabeth is down as Barwell, Leicestershire and the three children are Wolvey, Warwickshire.

In the 1891 Census William (64) and Elizabeth (59) are down as living at High Cross, Copston Magna, Stretton Under Foss, Leicestershire.
They have one child living with them, George (31) and also grandson Frederick Chamberlain (8).
Both William and George occupation is Farm Labourer.
Frederick is down as being born in Nottingham.

In the 1891 census Joseph (16) is down as a boarded at the home of the Suffolk family who live at  5 Church Wall, Castle Street, Hinckley. His occupation is down as a Solicitors Clerk.

William passed away between 1891 and 1901. 

Joseph Edward Chamberlain married Louisa Kirby in 1897 (Jun. Hinckley 7a 167)

     1.    Joseph H C Chamberlain.......born in 1900 (Mar. Hinckley 7a 49)

In the 1901 Census Elizabeth (69) is living at 21 Freeman Lane, Burbage, Leicestershire.
She has her grandson Frederick (18) living with her.
Frederick’s occupation is Boot Factory Hand.

In the 1901 Census Joseph Edward Chamberlain (26) is living at 29 Lutterworth Rd, Burbage, Leicestershire.
He is married to Louisa (27) and they have one child living with them, Joseph Harold C, aged 1, who was born in Burbage.
Joseph’s profession is Collector of Rates.

     2.  Eva Louisa Chamberlain is born at 29 Lutterworth Road, Burbage on 8^th October 1902.
     Joseph’s occupation is Assistant Oversea and Rate Collector.

In the 1911 Census Elizabeth (79) is still living at 21 Freeman Lane, Burbage, Leicestershire.
Living with her is her granddaughter Alice E Tovey-Cozens (27).
Alice E is down as being born in Kilmarsh Northampton.

In this census it say's that William and Elizabeth had ten children, but three had died, I know Elizabeth 
was one and I think the other two where William and Frederick.

Not sure when Elizabeth passes away.

What happened to the Children of William and Elizabeth 

      1.    Mary Ann.......married John Henry Dench in 1879 in Leicester. They had five children, William Henry            b.1881, Alice Elizabeth, b.1884, Maud E b.1886, Mary E b.1888 and Walter Ernst b.1892.

5.    Emma.......married John Bennett on 28^th March 1882 in Wolvey. They had Five Children John William  b.1884, Alice b.1887, Lilly b.1889, James b.1893 and George b.1902.

6.    Ellen.......married Walter Simmonds in 1895 (Jun. Hendon 3a 291). They had one daughter Clarice  b.1899.

7.    Thomas.......married Sarah Annie Wheatley in 1894, (Dec. Mt. Bosworth 7a 187). They had three  children, Elisie M b.1895, George W b.1897, Vera Clarice b.1907.

8.    Sarah.......married Joseph Wood on 6^th November 1888, in Monks Kirby, Warwickshire. They had  seven children, Gertrude Florence b.1889, Arthur William b.1890, Maud Ellen b.1892, Elizabeth  Lilian b.1895, Leonard b.1898, Shirley b.1904 and Vera Iris b.1911.

9.    Elizabeth.......died on the 13^th February 1890, aged 19 in Copston, Wolvey.

In the 1911 Census Joseph (36) and Louisa (37) are living at 11 Sketchley Rd, Burbage, Leicestershire.
They have two children living with them, *Joseph now 11 and Eva Louisa (8).
Joseph’s profession is Assistant Oversea of The Poor and Collector of Rates.

*Joseph I think is the H C Chamberlain that is a witness at his sister Eva’s wedding.

Louisa Chamberlain dies aged 46 in 1920 (Jun Hinckley 7a 64).

Joseph E Chamberlain dies aged 62 in 1937 (Mar. Lutterworth 7a 1)

     1.  Joseph H C Chamberlain....... married Alma Grewcock in 1922 (Dec. Hinckley 7a 167), in 1923 
     Joseph and Alma have a child Betty, (Dec. Hinckley 7a 92)

     2.  Eva Louisa Chamberlain.......married George H Loomes on the 23^rd September 1922, at the parish         church in the parish of St. James, Leicester. (Go to Chapter Seven)  

     3.  Norman William Kirby Chamberlain.......married Evelyn A Green in 1937 (Sep. Hinckley 7a 235).             In 1945 Norman and Evelyn have a child Sandra. 
     William Norman K Chamberlain died in 1988
