John King was born in about 1793 in Stretton, Rutland (1851 census) or Butterwick Fen,
Lincolnshire (1881 census)
John King married Elizabeth ? in ?
Children of John and Elizabeth
1. Hannah…….born about 1815 in
Stretton, Rutland (according to the 1871
census). I believe she may have been born in Castle Bytham, Lincolnshire being baptised on 15th
November, but her mother’s name is down as Battress.
Did Battress die and John get remarried to Elizabeth? If this was the case, I did come across that John and Battress had another daughter Mary
Ann baptised 22nd February 1817
in Castle Bytham.
2. John Addington…….baptised on 15th
November 1823 in Castle Bytham,
Lincolnshire.
3. Frances…….baptised on 18th
January 1829 in Castle Bytham,
Lincolnshire.
4. Eliza…….baptised
on 28th September 1832 in Castle
Bytham, Lincolnshire.
In
the 1841 Census John (45) and Elizabeth (45) are living at Stocker Hall, Oakham. They
have two children living with them, Eliza (9) and Frances (10). Also
living with them is Henry Nailor (25)
(son-in-law), Hannah* Nailor (25) (Henrys wife, John’s daughter) and Nicholas Nailor (2)( Henry’s and Hannah’s son, John’s grandson). John’s occupation is Tailor
and Henry’s occupation is
Agricultural Labourer.
*I know Hannah is John and Elizabeth’s daughter because in the 1871 census, John is living with Hannah and her family, and his relationship to the head of
household, Henry, is down as
father-in-law.
I
also came across an entry in the marriage register of Sep. 1840 of a Hannah King
who married a Henry Naylor in the
district of Oakham (15 849).
In
the 1851 Census John (56) and Elizabeth (57) are living in Stretton, Oakham, they have one child
living with them. Eliza (20). John’s occupation is Tailor
and Elizabeth’s occupation is Tailor’s
Wife. John is down as being
born in Stretton, Rutland, while both Elizabeth
and Eliza
are down as being born in Bytham, Lincolnshire.
Eliza
King
married James
Draper on 14th February 1853 at St. Peters & Pauls church, Market Overton, Rutland. At
the time of their marriage James is residing at Market Overton and Elisa
at Stretton, Rutland. James Profession is
Labourer. James father is James Draper
and his profession is Gent. Servant. Eliza’s father is John King
his profession is Tailor. Down
as witnesses are Hannah Naylor (Eliza’s
sister) and Gen. Smiths. In
the 1861 Census John (67) and Elizabeth (68) are living in a Private House, Oakham. John’s profession is
Tailor and Elizabeth’s profession is
Laundress.
Elizabeth died between 1861 and 1871.
In
the 1871 Census John (77) is living at Barrow Lodge,
Oakham. He
lives with his daughter Hannah (55),
her husband Henry Naylor* and their
daughter Emma (14). John’s profession is
Tailor Retired, Henry’s profession
is Groom and Emma’s is down as
Domestic Servant. Henry is down as being
born in Barrow, Rutland as is Emma, Hannah is down as being born in Stretton,
Rutland.
*Naylor spelt differently
from the 1841 census, Nailor
In
the 1881 Census John (88) is lodging at Cottage,
Stretton, Rutland. Living
with him as head of the house is Anne C
King (63), widow, not sure, if any, what relation she is to John? John’s occupation is down
as Tailor and Anne’s is Laundress. John is down as being
born in Butterwick, Lincolnshire and Anne
is down as being born in Owston, Leicestershire.
I
came across an entry in the death register of March 1882 of a John Broom King who died aged 88 in the district
of Oakham (7a 177).
