James was born in 1801 in Somerton, Somerset and was christened on 22nd February 1801.

He married Elizabeth Waldron on 31st July 1826 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Somerton, Somerset.

Elizabeth was born in Broadway, Somerset in about 1804.

In the 1841 census *James (30) and Elizabeth (35) live on Banckeham Way, Somerton, Somerset
Living with them are their five children, George (12), Edwin (10), Charles (8), Mary (2) and Samuel (1).
Everyone is down as being born in Somerset.

*James is down as 30 years old, should be 40.

In the 1851 census James (50) and Elizabeth (43) live on Long Acre Lane, Somerton, Somerset
Living with them are their five children, Edwin (20), Charles (18), Mary (12), Samuel (10) and Joseph (6).
The occupation of James, Edwin, Charles (who is described as Weak Minded) and Samuel is down as Farmers Labourer.
Everyone is down as being born in Somerton apart from Elizabeth who was born in Broadway, Somerset.

Elizabeth died in 1859 and was buried 7th May in St Michael and All Angels Church, Somerton, Somerset.

In the 1861 census James (60) and now a widower lives at West Street, Somerton, Somerset
Living with him are his 3 children, George (32), Charles (28) and Mary (22).
The occupation of James’ and George is down as Agricultural Labourers, Charles is down as a Tailor and 
Mary as a Glover.
George is down as being born in Somerton.

In the 1871 census James (70) still lives at West Street, Somerton, Somerset
Living with him are his 2 children, George (42) and Mary (32).
James’ occupation is down as an Agricultural Labourer, George is down as a Bell ? and Mary as a Glover.
George is marked down as an Idiot.

In the 1881 census James (80) lives alone on Langport Road, Somerton, Somerset
James’ occupation is down as Formerly Labourer.

James I believed died in 1881.

Joseph’s occupation is down as a Night Watchman 6/5, while Ann is down as a Pauper.
Caroline and the children are down as being born in Tredegar and Ann in Llandovry, Carmarthenshire, Wales.

*Elizabeth was registered with the surname Evans, she was born before Joseph and Caroline married, was Joseph the father?

In the 1901 census Sarah (13) is living with her sister Elizabeth (26) and Husband John A Moon (32) at 98 Glyn Terrace, Tredegar.
Elizabeth and John have 3 children, Stanley V (5), Elsie M (4) and Walter J (6 months).
John’s occupation is down as a Stationary Engine Driver.
All the family are down as being born in Tredegar.

Joseph died in 1910 aged 63 (Bedwellty Jun. 11a 64).

In the 1911 census Caroline (54) is still live at 67 Commercial Road, Bedwelty, Tredegar, Monmouthshire.
Living with her are 3 children, Evan (18), Thomas A (17), and Mary E (16).
Evan’s occupation is down as a Butcher Assistant, Thomas is a Latching Steam Crane, and Mary is a General Servant.

In the 1911 census Sarah (23) is still living with her sister Elizabeth (38) and Husband John A Moon (40) at 45 Rhyd Terrace, Tredegar. Her relation to John is down as a servant.
Elizabeth and John have 3 children, Stanley V (15), Elsie M (13) and Walter J (10).
John’s occupation is down as a Stationary Engineman.
All the family are down as being born in Tredegar.

Caroline died in 1926 aged 69 (Bedwellty Sep. 11a 88).

Sarah (24) married Frederick Skinner Carne (37) on the 29th July 1912 at the Register Office in the District of Bedwellty, Monmouthshire.
At the time of their marriage Frederick’s residence is down as 4 New Road, Argoed and Sarah’s is down as 45 Rhyd Terrace, Tredegar. (Same address she is living at in the 1911 census).
Frederick’s occupation is down as a Stone Mason Journeyman, his father, Samuel Skinner Carne is down as a Stone Quarry Man and Sarah’s father, Joseph, who is down as deceased, had been a night Watchman.
Witnesses are Elsie Maud Moon, Sarah’s niece and Emma Louisa Morgan who I think may off been related to John Moon, Sarah’s brother-in-law.

Frederick’s surname was spelt incorrectly on the wedding certificate, spelt Cairn instead of Carne. This also meant it was wrongly spelt in the Civil Registration Marriage Index for England and Wales.

1.    Elsie Maud…….born on the 15th of August 1912 at 12 Pochin Crescent, Tredegar. Frederick’s occupation is down as Stone Dresser.

2.    Frederick Skinner…….born on the 9th July 1914.

3.    Edith Caroline…….born on the 28th February 1920.

Frederick died in 1921 aged 42? (Bedwellty Jun. 11a 118).

Sarah died in 1940 aged 52 (Bedwellty Mar. 11a 238).

What happened to the children of Sarah and Frederick

1.    Elsie Maud…….married Bernard Dupree on the 26th December 1933, they had three children,
Sheila born in 1935, Edith born in 1937 and Bernard born in 1939. 
Bernard died in 1945 and Elsie remarried in 1958 to William Inness. Elsie died in 1976.   

2.    Frederick Skinner…….was married twice, his first marriage in 1940 was to Matilda J Mcclarey (Hendon, Middlesex, Dec. 3a 2365) they had one child, Dennis F born in 1944 (Edmonton, Middlesex, Dec. 3a 1108). His second marriage was to Ada S M Slade in 1956) (Weymouth Apr. 6a 1346), Frederick died in 1986.

3.    Edith Caroline…….married Stanley E Cork in 1938 (Barnet Sep. 3a 2559), they had three children, Geoffrey born in 1941, Gillian born in 1942 and Margaret born in 1944.                                     
Stanley died in 1988 and Edith died in 1990.
